Oh poor poor Jimmy I will post a recent letter I wrote to the NY Times. _______ I've got a great story for the Times. I write to you, a 21 year old film student, attending Syracuse University. Over the past 8 years I have been a member of an online forum. While the name of this site switched servers and changed titles many times, our members grew in number and we all continued to bond. We all, minus a few adult members, started out as young and naive children, chatting about the new episodes of Lost and Prison Break, trolling around, having fun, getting our lol's on. Skip ahead 8 years later, many of the members are gone, but a select 40 or less remain. We're a tight community, all friends, although most of us have never met one another. All from around the globe; Iceland, Canada, Germany, Belgium, England, the states, from California to New York. And then, from out of nowhere, one of our members known to us as "BSRJ," (Benjamin Scott Roberts Jr.) passes away. We did not notice at first. A week had gone by and we figured he was on vacation, or simply busy. Soon, someone noticed his facebook page, a Rest In Peace message appearing at the top, with a link to his funeral procession. A topic was made on the forum, "R.I.P. BSRJ," and 30 or so of us all mourned. Old members who hadn't been seen in years returned to the site as a tribute to Ben. BSRJ was but a troll to us over the past 8 years, getting his kicks by making fun occasionally, but he had a heart. He was good guy, only 19 years old. A diehard Packers fan, always laughing and having a good time. He had grown on all of us, and once he passed, we all realized just how much he meant to us. It's crazy to think that a username can actually make you feel, make you cry. Words over the internet, a chat or two on Skype, nothing more. But BSRJ meant something to all of us. We decided we should do something more than just posting stories about him, our favorite Ben moments. Currently, we are all sending around a ball (the site's mascot, a big yellow happy face named Gary, or Garyball), and we're all signing it. Furthermore, inside the package is a journal, in which we are all writing about Ben and what he meant to us, signing it with our real names and where in the world we live. Ben's family has no idea of any of this. But they will be the last to receive the package, revealing to them an entire secret life they had never known about their son. They had no idea of all the friends he had online. This is the story of how the troll brought us all together, a bunch of usernames from around the globe, and how we all mourned for the loss of one of our greatest friends whom none of us had ever even met. I look forward to hearing back from you sir, RORY THE CRUSHER ______ Ben, in other news, stop haunting me son!!!

I never met you personally, but I was still very saddened to hear about you passing away. It makes you think that these are all real people that you're playing with and that should not be taken lightly. RIP Jimmy AKA Ben.
